Galah Cottage Stanthorpe
Galah Cottage is a delightful cottage on the northern end of the Granite Belt. Reburbished to a very high standard in 2022 and 2023, it has 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a full kitchen, laundry, TV + DVD, sealed fireplace, BBQ, verandahs and a fire pit. With an elevation of about 900m, the air is clean and invigorating. Things don't get much better than this!
Stanthorpe - Dalveen
Galah Cottage is just north of Stanthorpe at Dalveen. Dalveen is the first village in the Granite Belt if you are coming from Brisbane, Toowoomba or the Gold Coast. We are about 2 1/4 hours from Brisbane and it's a bitumen highway all the way. While we are about 20km north of Stanthorpe, our nearest winery is about 4km away, the nearest coffee shop and the best apple pie are about 8 minutes, a local convenience store is 10 minutes while Woolworths, IGA and others are within 15 to 20 minutes.
Sitting on a 1,085ha working cattle property, Galah Cottage is about 250m from the owner's homestead so it's largely secluded. It's so secluded that there is very limited internet coverage which is great when you need to escape and relax for a few days.
Wildlife is a feature with wallabies, kangaroos, echidnas, lizards and stacks of birds depending on the season. Mown tracks make bush walks a pleasure. It's great for artists and people who just want to enjoy nature.
Accommodation
Galah Cottage is available as short term tourist accommodation. There is a 2 day minimum stay as we would prefer guests stayed a few days to appreciate what we and the region have to offer. There are 3 double bedrooms so get some friends together as we would prefer all bedrooms were occupied if at all possible.
Wineries
Granite Belt has some quite innovative wineries, breweries and interesting places to visit. There are also occasional steam railway tours from Warwick that are worth the effort.
The area can get very cold and it does snow occasionally although it is unlikely you'll be here for such an occasion. As the Granite Belt is usually the coldest spot in Queensland, we encourage you to bring a jumper irrespective of the season. And, of course, the night sky is just magnificient.
We've tried to bring nature into the cottage so we have virtually no curtains. You will be woken at dawn if not by the sun then most certainly by the birds.
